In order to create something that was of high quality and possible for me to do, I had to use equipment that was beneficial to my situation.
The pocket video camera enabled me to work flexibly as the camera was easily portable and I could easily check back on my test shoots and be only one click way from filming again. When in addition to using the miniature grip ipod, I was given the advantage of capturing creative and what would normally be difficult shots, because my equipment was light.
Creating a storyboard proved difficult and unnecessary as I hadn't a clear image on what I wanted to shoot step by step. With no script, and with this being a music video, the shots had to change even more frequently than perhaps a short film, in order to keep the audience interested, ultimately making a storyboard near impossible.
One of the main concepts of the music video was that there was a clear change in seasons throughout. I had already decided to have an Indie based genre at this point of pre-production, and with the research I had done, I was aware that I had to obtain a naturalistic imagery within the video. Therefore I ruled out manipulating the shots with lighting and colour enhancing programmes on the Mac I worked on throughout. My only source of lighting was natural lighting, which proved increasingly difficult in regards of having to rely on the weather to be suitable enough to film in.
I filmed periodically over the year, working creatively once the weather was the image I had in my head.
